The Divine Person of the Holy Spirit

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Trinity.

The Holy Spirit is a person, and should be treated with the respect of a divine person. He is a member of the Trinity, equal to God the Father and God the Son.

I am not saying there are three gods, but three divine persons who are also one. “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one” (Deut. 6:4).

The unbelieving world will not believe this great Biblical truth because it cannot. “It neither sees Him nor knows Him,” Jesus said. “But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you” (John 14:18). Jesus promised His disciples “another Comforter to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth” (v. 16). Another divine person was being sent to continue the work of the Kingdom of God. Jesus was not sending a thing, but another divine person, a member of the Godhead.

R. A. Torrey observed, “If we once grasp the thought that the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person of infinite majesty, glory and holiness and power, who in marvelous condescension has come into our hearts to make His abode there and take possession of our lives and make use of them, it will put us in the dust and keep us in the dust. I can think of no thought more humbling or more overwhelming than the thought that a person of Divine majesty and glory dwells in my heart and is ready to use even me.”

The divine personality of the Holy Spirit is observed in His actions. He is promised as a Counselor, Helper or the Encouraging One for believers. He gives His gifts to build up the body of Christ (John 14:16-18; 1 Cor. 12:11). He is another Counselor of the “same kind.” He is another divine being doing the will of the Father just like Jesus. He lives with Christians and in them. He is equal to the Father and the Son.

The Holy Spirit has the same divine attributes as the Father and the Son. He is “holy,” omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent just like the Father and the Son (1 Cor. 2:10-11; Jn. 16:12-13; Lk. 1:35; Ps.139:7-10).

The Holy Spirit does works that are exclusive of God. He is creator, imparts life, gives spiritual birth, gave the inspired Word of God, the Bible, and equips believers with spiritual gifts  (Job 26:13; 33:4; John 3:5-6; Rom. 8:11; 2 Pet. 1:21). It is not a spiritual force or power that gives gifts. Only a person can do that.

The Holy Spirit has a distinct personality from the Father and the Son. Jesus said of Him, “When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, He will testify about me” (John 15:26). The Spirit is ranked coordinate with God the Father and God the Son. He is equal in power and deity. “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all” (2 Cor. 13:14). We are commanded, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt. 28:19).

He is given a personal name. Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit?” (Acts 5:3). Holy Spirit is His name, and He is God. “You have not lied unto men, but unto God” (v. 4).

The sin against the Holy Spirit is an offense against a divine personality, and it has eternal consequences (Matt. 12:31-32).

The Holy Spirit is a real person whose work is to get hold of our lives and use us to the glory of God. As long as we think of Him as a mysterious power, or influence our thoughts will be to get more of the Holy Spirit, and we will be filled with self-exaltation and self-pride. When we think of Him as a Divine Person, a member of the Trinity, we are occupied with how He can have more of me. How can I make myself available to Him to glorify the Father and be used in the Kingdom of God?

We honor the Holy Spirit by recognizing and relying upon His work in our lives, in our churches and in reach8iang the lost world. When we ignore Him, we Him and disobey Him we dishonor the Godhead. Our attitude and response to the Word of God honors or dishonors the Holy Spirit who is its Author. Being “filled with the Spirit” means to obey Him and be in submission to Him. When we are under His control we bring honor and glory to the Lord God.Selah!

I say, don’t get Involved In

I say, don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights. A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth.Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil’s trap. There are many types of fights we should avoid.

# 1 There are the war mongers. No, I am not talking about armies but rather there are those that love to fight and argue for the fun of it. Do not let your guard down around them. If there is any opportunity they will jump on it to cause fights. From my experience it always catches up with them in their later years and they end up all alone, bitter and very lonely.

# 2 The “ I know every thing. You know nothing “ idiots. I say they are idiots because many times you see them heading for disaster or know a easier way to accomplish a task and they arrogantly laugh at you with a superior attitude while they know nothing about what they are attempting to do. Then, when disaster strikes instead of being mature and admitting their error they blame you.

We must not quarrel with them but must be kind to them, be able to teach them, and be patient with them.  

But, if they refuse to listen, we are to wash our hands and walk away from them and let them suffer the consequences of their arrogant stupidity.

Now if they are willing to listen and obey our instructions afterwards we are not to be superior to them or rub their noses in it but be respectful to them.

I have been on both side of the coin. When I realized the error of my ways I went and apologized to those I refused to listen to and thanked them for their help. It was much more difficult walking away from those heading for disaster.

Prayer: Thank you Jehovah Rabbi (God our Teacher 2 Timothy 3:16 ) for all of the wonderful mentor You have blessed me with through out my lifetime.

Thank you for instilling me to repent when I refused to listen to them.

Thank you for blessing me with numerous opportunities to mentor to others. It is wonderful to watch them succeed at their tasks.

A Good Recipe

I am grateful for The Lord sense of humour. This morning I searched all over for my swimming goggles to no avail. When I cam home from swimming there they were, right in the middle of the bed, jumping out at me.

I am grateful for the email subscription for natural health for cats. They gave me a good recipe for home made cat food.

I am grateful for gentle rain this afternoon that lulled me to a good afternoons nappies ( us old folks need them ).

I am grateful for not talking with moms doctors today because she was an hour and a half late calling me. She was politely informed that I expect her to call at the appointed time. After all if we are late we are charged for it. So, should the same consideration not be given to us? She agreed to talk with me tomorrow at the appointed time.

When you are respectful towards others it is only right that the same be given back in return.

I am grateful for the abundant crops that are coming to fruition

Then We are Not To

Complete reconciliation and peaceful coexistence require cooperation from two parties. If the other person is unwilling to reconcile or live in harmony, peacemaking becomes impossible.  Then we are not to waste our time with the offender but we are to be respectful , formal with them. We Must Ask for Every Day

The most important blessing we must ask for every day is for Christ to bless us with His love. When He generously gives that to us, then we will have patience, self control, wisdom, love, respect and compassion towards others and towards ourselves. Have you ever had anyone one wordpress follow you just so you will click their articles or buy something from them but they never read or like your articles? Then why are they following you? Because they want you to give them something while they give you nothing in return.

The same is true of all of the false Christians.

The only reason they “ follow “ Jesus is because they want something from Him. They never offer Him anything, the only time they want to talk with Him is when they want something from Him and when He gives them their request they are too selfish, lazy and arrogant to even say thank you much less offer something in return.

Maybe you are not receiving anything from Jesus because you are ungrateful and offer Him nothing in exchange. Joseph- Anthony a son of Jehovah

Seleh. Seleh means to stop and think about it. Let’s think about how many times we have thanked Jehovah for His gifts whether they be big or small. Let us stop and think of how many times we have offered our time, resources and or labour to Him as a gift of love and appreciation.

Prayer: Thank you Jehovah Jireth (Genesis 22:14 The LORD Shall Provide ) for abundantly providing for my material and spiritual needs every day. Thank you for blessing me with The Holy Spirit who gently enlightens me to each blessing so I may show proper respect and appreciation for them and joyfully thank You for each of them.
