A closer walk with our beloved friend.

Not Avoid It.

Turn to me, and be gracious to me; Grant Your strength [Your might and the power to resist temptation] to Your servant. Psalm 86:16 The Holy Bible Amplified Version

Notice it says resist temptation and not avoid it. The writer knows full well it is impossible to flee from all temptation so he requests Divine strength to endure the attack of the wicked one.

The evil one who knows his prey and how to tempt him or her.

Sometimes Jehovah will not intervene on our behalf because He wants us to understand we are strong enough to fight some of our own battles.

On the flip side of the coin, He also knows the battle is too great for us and is waiting for us to call upon Him. This helps us to not be arrogant and foolishly believe we are strong enough to withstand temptation on our own.

Steadfast in believing doth not exclude temptations from without. When we see a tree firmly rooted, we do not say the wind doth not blow upon it. John Owen

Prayer: Thank you Jehovah Shammah ( The Lord is Present) for always being present through my plentiful temptations that come my way every day. May I make You proud when I vanquish them on my own when strong enough and be wise enough to call upon You when they are to overpowering for me to resist. I humbly request this in the name of He who overpowered satan in the wilderness Jesus Christ. Amen

Wishing you a house full of sunshine, hearts full of cheer and love that grows deeper each day of the year. Welsh blessing

As Christ is our King, so too are we His free will servants Joseph a son of Jehovah I have been a faithful servant of our Lord for the past forty years. He has led me to move from the farm to the city. It was there I learned natural medicine as well as to serve by doin volunteer work in a hospital. This was preparing me for the next stage of growth and service unto Him. The next phase was to live in a tent in the western provinces of Canada planting trees. It has here in His marvelous creation of nature that He taught me so much of Himself while serving others in camp as a first aid attendant. If anybody got sick or injured they always came to me. As well, I learned to be a big brother and care about their mental health and for most, it was the first time they were ever loved. This caring for others prepared me for the next step which was to be a teacher all over China. Here not only did my example guide many to our Heavenly King but also taught me how to deal with narcissist. This prepared me to come home to take care of a narcissistic mother while dealing with narcissist family members. It was in China that the Lord also guided me to become a Christian writer which has been faithfully done for the past ten years. I know not what will happen tomorrow but I know who holds tomorrow in His hands and it is Him I place my total confidence and trust in. Joseph a son of Jehovah

  1. “He also knows the battle is too great for us and is waiting for us to call upon Him. ”

DailyFirefly and I were just talking about this recently. There’s a popular saying going around lately that God “won’t give you more than you can handle.” Well, yes and no, right?! He does want and expect us to try… to fight… that’s why He gives us armor and tells us how to resist temptation and evil! But as DF and I were considering, maybe sometimes God allows us to have precisely that: More than we can handle. Maybe He knows that it is only the “more than we can handle” that will bring us running back to Him, throwing ourselves upon His strength and mercy and provision. In the end, that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it? ALL of it? It’s about drawing us closer to Him. Even those things that are too much for us… He is using for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose!

    Great piece, Ropheka!

    • I agree.

Many times Jehovah will allow us to go to the end of ourselves so that we learn to lean upon Him. That brings us into a closer relationship with Him.

  2. Amen. Thank you for the encouragement.
    Blessings always.

  3. Amen! Not only does God help us, He too intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words according to His will! 🙂

  4. ropheka – Thank you for faithfully liking every one of my posts. You are such a encouragement. 🙂

  5. Love the John Owen quote! I doubt that I will ever look at a tree in quite the same way ever again. 🙂
