As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. Luke 21:1-3 New International Version
It is not how much of our time or money that we give to the Lord that is important. It is how much we give from our heart that counts. When it is someones birthday or Christmas, do you grudgingly give niggardly (grudgingly giving sparingly, greedy Webster’s Dictionary) or do you give with great joy?
Should the same mentality not be taken when giving to God?
After all, aren’t we just giving back to Him what He has given us in the first place?
As well, when you give should it not be in haughtiness (not proud : not arrogant or assertive Webster’s Dictionary).
I personally do not like churches that send newsletters to members that state how much each person gave. That should be between them and God, not other church members. Doesn’t that embarrass those that have limited resources while puffing up (making proud) those that have excess to give.
Prayer: Please El Shaddai (God who is sufficient for the needs of His people) protect me from having a haughty heart about my giving. Let my giving be as a offering of thanks for all the wonderful blessing You have so graciously given me. In the name of Your greatest gift to us Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.
May the sweet sunshine of Jesus’ love bless you today and every day.
